How the calculation works
The tip is the bill amount multiplied by the tip percentage divided by 100. The total adds the tip to the bill. The per-person figure divides that total by the whole-number party size.
Conventions and boundaries
- Rate: you choose the tip percentage; the calculator does not recommend a rate.
- Split: the per-person result is an equal mathematical split and does not allocate rounding differences among diners.
- Amount: results use the same currency units as the bill amount, without exchange-rate or tax assumptions.
- Scope: service charges, taxes, local customs, and non-equal shares are outside scope.
Common questions
Does the calculator choose the tip rate?
No. The rate is entirely user-entered. The tool performs arithmetic on that choice.
Can I split the total?
Yes. Enter a whole-number party size to see the equal share of the total.
