How the calculation works

Markup amount equals cost × markup percentage ÷ 100. Selling price equals cost plus markup. Margin equals markup divided by selling price × 100.

Conventions and boundaries

  • Markup: is applied to cost, not to selling price.
  • Margin: is reported separately because it uses selling price as its denominator.
  • Scope: taxes, fees, shipping, discounts, and pricing recommendations are outside scope.
